590 Teamsters Local 14 members run the trucks, the water, the streets, and the yards that keep North Las Vegas open. When the city was nearly bankrupt, we helped hold it together. Now the city is thriving — and still won't put a fair raise on paper.

This is how it's actually gone for NLV Teamsters over the last two decades.

2008: the city faced bankruptcy. Teamsters Local 14, led by Larry Griffith, worked directly with the city to keep operations running and NLV solvent. During COVID, our members were declared "essential" and kept every truck, crew, and yard moving with no added pay or benefits.

Today the city's finances are strong. The city council voted down our contract before the pandemic even started, and the most recent raise came out to 2.1% on paper — but after adjustments, only 1% actually reached members' paychecks.

A short history of showing up.

  1. 2008

    NLV faces bankruptcy

    Local 14, led by Larry Griffith, worked with the city to keep it solvent and operating rather than watch it collapse.

  2. 2020

    Essential — and unpaid for it

    NLV workers were officially deemed essential during the pandemic. The city council voted down the contract right before COVID hit. No raise. No added benefits. The trucks still ran.

  3. Last year

    A raise in name only

    Members were told they'd received a 2.1% increase. Once the dust settled, only 1% actually showed up as real pay.

  4. Now

    The city is doing well. We're still waiting.

    North Las Vegas is in a strong financial position. Members are still waiting on a fair contract that reflects what the city actually asks of them.

Who can fix this

Mayor Scott Black

Teamsters Local 14 endorsed Scott Black, who finished in the top two of the primary. As mayor, he's in a position to get a fair contract for the 590 members who keep North Las Vegas running. An endorsement was a bet on follow-through — this contract is where that gets decided.
